Mid-Century Modern Construction

MidCentMod_98Initial reactions towards this Mid-Century modern house shows a yard that has potential but hasn’t been fleshed out yet. The first thing we did was save all the slate pavers during the construction process. The pavers were in nearly perfect condition and were structurally sound and saving them allowed us to keep a historic element of the house and bring it through in the new design. The construction of the landscape took place during and after the completion of the house. The green roof system installed on the upper patio helps with insulation, water retention, and provides an excellent thermal barrier in both the summer and winter. Designed by Dipol Landscape Architects, Basel/Christopher T. Hunziker & Hans Moser and opened in June of 2005, Wahlenpark was the last addition to the overall redevelopment “Zentrum Zurich Nord.”

Westpol is a firm that focuses on planning and implementation of open spaces in various contexts, themes and scales. Their projects design the urban and exterior public spaces including boulevards, promenades and parks with the hope to formulate a vision for cities of the future.

Andy Schoenholser founded Westpol in 2008, emerging from Dipole Landscape Architects. they currently employ 8 landscape architects and designers, working on projects such as Leutschenpark and Wahlenpark/Zurich.
